Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette (1755–93) was queen of France until she was famously overthrown during the French Revolution and executed by guillotine in 1793 following the abolition of the monarchy. The French Revolution began in 1789 and in 1792 the country's Legislative Assembly voted for the monarchy to be abolished. Both Marie and her husband, King Louis XVI, were put on trial by members of the new republican regime and convicted of treason. Marie Antoinette was publicly guillotined on 16 October 1793 at the age of 37, following her husband, who was executed by guillotine on 21 January
