Alexander the Great
King Alexander III of Macedon (356–323 BC), better known as Alexander the Great, is considered one of the best military leaders in history. Succeeding his father at the age of 20, he studied under the philosopher Aristotle and was well-versed in strategy and statecraft when he led an army in destroying the Persian empire. Further conquests followed and by the time of his death at the age of 32, his empire stretched from Greece to the edges of India. Numerous cities were named after him and he never lost a battle.
